Erika Sanchez

Since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. I have had very influential teachers and coaches throughout my life and was inspired to pursue education as a career. After graduating college with a degree in Spanish education I decided to move to Mexico to get some hands-on experience. I spent 2 years working with youth in Mexico City and Guadalajara before returning to Texas to start my career as an elementary school teacher. I absolutely loved my job teaching dual language in Fort Worth ISD, but when I started having children of my own, I knew it was time to dedicate more time to my family. After leaving my full-time job I felt a void in my life that teaching used to fill and quickly noticed a void in the city, as well. There was nowhere in Fort Worth that an elementary age student could go to learn Spanish. Sure, there were preschools, and private schools, and a small handful of two-way dual language public schools. But there was nowhere that a student could just sign up to take Spanish classes as an extracurricular class. It didn’t take long for me see this as an amazing opportunity for me to use my talents and passion to serve the great city of Fort Worth. I love the Spanish language and consider it a great privilege to hold open the door (La Puerta) for students to experience a new language right here in Cowtown.
