Carly King

Color and Style Consultant of House of Colour Carly King

We can be tempted to think a focus on what’s external is about vanity, and yet we are created as embodied creatures – it’s a thing to celebrate the uniqueness inside and outside each of us!

Meet August’s Fort Worth Woman! Carly King is a people person through and through. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, she began her career as an Assistant Buyer for Neiman Marcus and found an appreciation for the corporate side of both fashion and style. Over the last decade and three precious children later, Carly has moved from Neimans to Telecom, to being a stay-at-home mom, to an instructor with Fit4Mom Stroller Strides, to a Children’s Book Publisher Consultant, and is now a Franchise Owner of House of Colour serving the DFW area.

If you have not heard of House of Colour before, it “began in the mid 1980’s in the UK and is now growing in the United States at the best in Personal Color and Style Analysis. Color Analysis can be traced back to Hollywood and Robert Dorr. Dorr was an artist who had been trained in Johannes Itten’s theories of color groupings developed in the Bauhaus,” Carly explains. She continues in detail about how door Dorr saw more need for attention to color, “he observed how an actress could look wonderful one day, yet tired and older in another. He recognized this was the effect of the color she was wearing on her skin and the beginnings of color analysis was born!”. House of Colour is now a full-service operation including color analysis, style analysis, wardrobe consulting, personal styling and even makeup.

The methodology of this process is not meant to put you in a box or limit your fashion choices. Instead, the undertones of your skin are evaluated by a consultant to find out which tones and hues of color look best on you. The intention is to discover the colors in both clothing and makeup that accentuate the beauty you naturally carry with you each day. After a color analysis appointment, you leave with both the knowledge (that is physically shown to you with precision-dyed swatches of fabric in a mirror for you to witness) of what colors work with your skin as well as a fan of your particular season of colors to take with you to both your closet and in future shopping endeavors. Style analysis, wardrobe consultation, and personal shopping opportunities are also available to curate the closet of your dreams to craft a style that fits your body, spirit, and life.

For Carly’s journey, this has been the full-circle dream. After being unable to master the idea of a “capsule wardrobe” combined with all the postpartum feelings that come with having three children, she had her own Color and Style Analysis completed in October of 2020 and as she says, “little did I now how transformative that would be! My closet initially consisted of every kind of color and every kind of look: edgy, classic, girly, boho, flowy, tailored. You name it – I had tried it.” Now she shops with intention, knowing what colors work, not only for herself but for others. Carly describes further, “now with House of Colour, it feels like a homecoming to be back in the style space! Turns out I was made for fashion – and it’s been even more fun when I get to bring fashion to others to make them come alive!”

The high standards of training are what initially caught Carly’s eye with House of Colour. As she states, “fashions, trends, and fads come and go. The theory of color and the House of Colour Analysis Process remains based in science, logic, and objectivity. Clients leave a Color Analysis appointment with a deep understanding of their unique coloring that will empower them in all their hair, makeup, wardrobe, accessory, and styling decisions.”

Once she had a grasp on her colors and her vision for her wardrobe, Carly couldn’t help but share the news with everyone she encountered. She became the ‘passion becoming a purpose’ story as knowing her colors not only changed her external appearance, but boosted her inner confidence as well. Carly further explains, “We can be tempted to think a focus on what’s external is about vanity, and yet we are created as embodied creatures – it’s a thing to celebrate the uniqueness inside and outside each of us! The House of Colour process has brought so much life and confidence in to me. In all the spheres of life I enter: business owner, mom, wife, friend, community member, I am able to show up fully as myself. As I saw the impact that confidence had on me and the friends I was sharing it with, I began dreaming of what it would be to open my own franchise to directly get to share this gift. In the Spring of 2022, those dreams were realized as I opened my own doors!”

With her personal studio located in Flower Mound, Carly is able to serve pop-ups all throughout the DFW area. A color analysis can be done alone or as a group. Carly enthusiastically describes, “Grab some friends for a girls or guys day, your spouse or even make it a family affair! The information you gain from a color and style analysis truly is an investment that will pay off over your lifetime. You’ll gain the tools to create a wardrobe you love and that represents you, all while shopping wisely and with intention.”

What Carly loves about the city of Fort Worth is it’s uniqueness that despite the size, the hometown feel wraps everyone here in loving arms. She states, “I first fell in love with Fort Worth as my husband’s hometown. The people of this city were pivotal in his upbringing and as his new bride, they welcomed me with open arms! Fort Worth is where our three kids were born and I found a community of people and organizations to help navigate the new season of motherhood with. We all know that it takes a village: to raise kids, to start a new business, to make an impact in your community and sphere of life. The people of Fort Worth have been some of the most influential in supporting, developing, and speaking life in to my unique wiring so that I can serve others.” Now with House of Colour, Carly has found a way to give back in the exact way that Fort Worth has given to her.

As a local business owner, Carly has a goal to make our entire city that much more colorful. She describes, “Color and Style Analysis is more than just improving what people see on the outside. It’s about helping people see who they really are and giving them permission to show up with confidence and focus in their lives! We are all embodied people – color and style knowledge will allow you to be full you in all the spheres of life that you step in to.”

Whether you are a teen, a mom, and husband, or a group of friends, this experience is one that is full of the joy that Carly naturally brings to a room as well as an adaptive knowledge that will help shape the ways you see yourself. She might be tiny, but she brings a mighty presence of confidence with her that is worth the entire experience.
