Cara Burk
Co-Owner/Videographer/Photographer at B Family Films
Meet June’s Woman of the Month, Cara Burk! Cara has perfected the art of working with a camera. From striking photos to captivating videos, her love for her craft shines through her work. As a wife, mom and business owner, Cara uses her attention to detail to create and freeze special moments that most people take for granted. Both Cara and her husband Chris own B Family Films, a local company that creates beautiful cinematic home movies accompanied with lifestyle photographs of families in their real moments because they believe our children should stay our babies forever!
Cara has been a photographer for well over ten years. “It is what I have my degree in,” she said, “but it wasn’t until a little over a year ago that I really realized my true passion: videography and filmmaking.” Three years ago, Cara had pretty much put her camera days behind her for good. After two failed photography businesses she was officially burned-out. Around this same time she and her husband, Chris, were busy raising their baby girl, Bobbi, in Colorado. While working at Starbucks, Cara found herself trying to keep her passion alive but she just knew her heart wasn’t in it.
Two months after their baby Bobbi was born, the Burk family made the decision to move home to Texas. Ironically as the family got settled, Cara felt more lost than ever. “I told my husband that I felt like my degree was a waste,” she said. “Chris looked me dead in the eye and said, ‘Cara, stop taking photos to make money and just do what you love. What is it that would make you happy to shoot if you didn’t have to worry about money at all?’ and I knew the answer as soon as he asked it because it was all I ever thought about shooting… Lifestyle.” That was all it took to get the gears turning and set her dream in motion.
Chris had experience in making videos for YouTube.
Cara then learned everything she could about lifestyle videography.
And the rest is history.
Now, a year and a half later, this husband-wife team of B Family Films has made films for over 20 Fort Worth families, countless keepsake videos of their favorite subject, Bobbi, and Cara’s passion for their business continues to flourish.
B family Films believes every single moment of your day with your family is important. They believe that the story of your life together is rooted at home, in the beauty of the everyday. Cara’s goal is to not only show you how special it is when you are making your kids breakfast in the morning but also help you to remember the way that they laugh, the evolution of their smile to the bounce of the curls that used to be at the ends of their hair. Cara and Chris come to your home and help you slow down – even for just one day – so that you can hear their tiny voices and see their sweet faces to revisit these moments for years to come.
Personally for my family, Cara and her husband have created both a family film at our home to freeze our everyday, routine moments as well as a memory video of our Vow Renewal from last summer. Each of these videos show us who we are as a small family. I get teary every time I watch these videos because you can actually feel them. If I want to remember the voices of my children at age three and five, I can. If I want to see my Dad loving on my children and hugging my husband at our Vow Renewal, I can. If I want to remember exactly how our bedtime routine used to go before it changes in the blink of an eye, I can. In a time of a digital, fast and furious game, Cara and her husband Chris created a film that even my children can show the next generation. They create, freeze, and memorialize the moments we typically take for granted.
When asking this Fort Worth Native about her favorite part of the city she explained how it pales in comparison to any other city. “I used to joke with Chris that I wish we could pick up Fort Worth and move it to Colorado,” Cara said. “I love the mountains but no city in Colorado does it like Fort Worth.” The nostalgia tugs at the heartstrings and pulls her closer to her roots. “I remember going to circuses in the Stockyards with my parents, hearing my great grandfather talk about how he used to work on the top floor of the Montgomery Plaza building back when it was Montgomery Wards, and birthday dinners at Riscky’s Barbeque in downtown.” Fort Worth is always home to Cara and there isn’t a thing she doesn’t love.
When asked what word Cara feels to describes her impact, she used ‘small’. “We spend a lot of time getting to know each of the families we film; learning their history, the love they have for one another, characteristics of each child, even objects in their house that are sentimental,” Cara explains, “I say small because we focus on very ‘small’ details for every family. Our lives are made up of small moments that create one beautiful, unique picture. Knowing that we know the smallest details will mean the world to each family.”
Cara, your passion and creative vision inspires women to stop, slow down and love on their family. Your big heart for the small details shows us how dedicated you are to your clients and your craft and we appreciate your tenacity! The focus you place on the ‘small’ creates a huge impact for local families that will be treasured for a lifetime.
