Meet July’s Fort Worth Women! Sandra Falcon and Pamela Losoya are local, childhood friends who are consistently mistaken as sisters. They are the co-founders of Luna Antigua, an online clothing boutique whose heart is built around economic fair trade, empowering women in Guatemala to support themselves. All of Luna Antigua’s clothing and accessory pieces are designed here in Fort Worth, sustainably-made in Guatemala, and individually-curated for women and children.
Pam grew up visiting Guatemala with family members who were business owners in well-known Guatemalan mercados. Her visit last summer was extraordinarily special because she was able to take her two daughters (one of which was recovering from a recent heart surgery) with her. Thanks to her partner Sandra’s souvenir requests and keen eye for fashion, the idea of Luna Antigua was born.
While originally requesting clearance to see if her daughter could attend the trip, Pam learned from a doctor that heart complications are common for people in Guatemala. This news established a more personal connection with the idea behind Luna Antigua and to this day these ladies are determined to give back to Guatemala, specifically to children who suffer from malnutrition and heart conditions.
Since officially launching in September of 2015, their hope is that women and children will wear Luna Antigua with pride, knowing that they are a part of a positive movement and that they are helping keep the art form of hand-looming alive.
Originally, launching the business started as a hobby via popup shops throughout Fort Worth/Dallas but it quickly became a passion as they began to learn how each piece is specifically made and as their local success grew. Each tunic, dress, and caftan is made by hand and is full of tradition as unique and intricate as the artisan themselves.
These entrepreneurial Fort Worth mamas love Funkytown. They have an appreciation for both our city’s diversity and true southern hospitality. Sandra and Pam stated that, “working our Pop-Ups has led us to connect with so many amazing local people and businesses-especially women-owned businesses! We will never forget passing out flyers for our first big Pop-Up event and having a local lady stop with us and pray over our business venture and having a local business woman invite us over for breakfast when we asked for guidance on a business plan. These are the kind of people that make up our city and it truly is a gem!”
Their word for the impact they have on our city is “enriching” which is all too fitting considering the rich culture and beautiful textiles they bring to our city! Congratulations and thank you for enriching our city Sandra and Pam!
