Meet June’s Fort Worth Woman! Candace Cooper was born in Fort Worth and developed a love for animals at a very young age. After college she worked in the airline industry, moved to Lake Tahoe gaining experience in the hotel industry, and eventually made her way back to Fort Worth to be closer to family. During her travels, Candace noticed how many dog daycares were available in the larger cities. Upon her return, she saw the rejuvenation of our downtown and recognized a need for those same services. After a year of research and searching for the perfect location (a large grassy yard, close to downtown), Candace took a leap of faith on the Near Southside area and opened Doggie Diggs. Despite the concerns from those around her regarding both her location and occupation of choice, Candace worked diligently on building an integrity-driven, positive business and has not had to look back once in these past seven years!
One of the top priorities behind the Doggie Diggs mission is to safely socialize puppies. Candace states that “the number one reason dogs are relinquished to shelters is due to behavioral problems that can almost always be avoided via socializing a puppy properly. The critical socialization period is between 3 to 16 weeks. Doggie Diggs uses this time to expose puppies to a wide variety of sights, sounds, smells, dogs, and people without becoming fearful.”
DayCare is another prime focus for Candace’s business as this time provides a gentle exposure for puppies, a structured playtime for adult dogs, and a watchful eye for those senior pups.
Candaces’ dreams continue to build for our city as well. She is working on opening a safe and ethical pet transport service as well as opening a small pet grooming vocational school. Her goal is to help locals who love animals learn a skill and direct their lives towards a path of success. Her word for her impact on our city is passionate, entirely appropriate given her dreams that she has already made reality!
Candace puts her all in to @doggiediggsfortworth and truly loves the dogs as if they were her own. She states that she has “the most amazing clients, both 2-legged and 4-legged!” Candace loves our city of Fort Worth because it has everything a large city has to offer, but with a small town feel. Given how much she has been able to travel, she has yet to find a city as good as Fort Worth when it comes to the quality of people!
