Martha Greer

Owner & Tailor at Martha & Greer

I take the stress out of finding the right gown by designing it or helping them put the alterations in hands they can trust.

Meet August’s Woman of the Month, Martha Greer!

Martha is a Fort Worth native who has been making custom sewing dreams come true for over 53 years. Being one of three kids of a Pastor and wife couple, she is rooted in both love and compassion. On her 8th birthday, her mother took her to buy her first sewing machine in order to introduce her to the trade that was the tradition of her family. Martha immediately fell in love with the craft, has officially perfected the precision of sewing, and still loves the work to this day. She now has two grown children, who are just as creative as she is in that her son son is naturally talented musician and her daughter is a creative director/designer.

In 1995, Martha officially started her own business with the hope of filling a custom alteration void that was unavailable at the time. Originally named Laviyshey (a combination of her children’s names), Martha & Greer began. When she first began, she offered alterations, new sewing, and upholstery. Since opening, she has sewn custom shirts for world poker teams, created dresses for pageant winners, and made custom clothing for people with different abilities and medical conditions. Her compassion is genuine for each of her diverse customers and her talent is limitless.

Overall in her career, Martha has partnered with luxury companies like Saks Fifth Ave as well as with businesses nationwide, television stars, and athletes. In particular, after a client referral, she was able to showcase on the costumes in the recent reboot of the television show Dallas. Martha found herself on the set of their photoshoots and working directly with all of the celebrities in the show. “It was wonderful! Everyone was so sweet.” What is beautiful about Martha is that no matter who she is working with, her goal is the same. “Everyone should feel confident and shine bright in the clothes as they wear,” she explains.

Specifically, Martha loves to design and customize wedding dresses for excited brides. All fittings are done in the comfort of the client’s home or office. She is a miracle worker with fabric, lace, and any design problem possible. Her passion is releasing the anxiety of overwhelmed brides of any stress that could come out of creating their perfect dress. Whether it is the mother of the bride or the whole wedding party, Martha’s calling is to make sure there is never a worry about their garments or accessories.

After the big day, Martha also ensures the newlyweds have the perfect window treatments in their new home. She helps them make their new space their own and make it home. “In helping make sure my clients are happy, it in turn makes me happy. I am so glad I am living my dream!”

Martha’s favorite part about Fort Worth is the great people! “I grew up here and even went to TCU and I still love this quiet and exciting city,” Martha says. “I’ve seen the progress made in civil rights and there is still much work to be done. I do have hope that the city is moving in the right direction.” Martha your mark has been important on our city and your voice is so incredibly valued. Our city will continue to improve because of people like you and because of those who love you who will constantly re-educate themselves on how we can make Fort Worth a better place.

When asked what sums up her impact as a business woman, Martha used the word trust. “I tell brides to ‘never stress over the dress’ because they have probably spent days or months looking for the perfect dress while juggling every aspect of their big day,” she says. “I take the stress out of finding the right gown by designing it or helping them put the alterations in hands they can trust.” Said simply, do not trust your most important day with just anyone, but know that having Martha in your corner makes a world of difference.

If you’re ready to be fitted for your dream dress, visit marthaandgreer.com to schedule a phone consultation. Given the limitations due to COVID, Martha& Greer is back but is limiting fittings to Tuesdays and Thursdays. Masks are required and the preference is only one person per fitting. Call today to lock in your date. Martha is ready and by far one of the most qualified to walk the journey with you and make your wedding dreams come true!
