Jan Draper

Advocate

Jan Draper, 76, is free-falling 15,000 feet in the air for five minutes in memory of her late husband Gary, who died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease in January of 2017. “For a few short minutes, I will be much closer to him,” she said.

After reflecting on the challenges of the disease and to honor his memory, Jan is participating in The Longest Day, June 21, 2018. Jan will use this day to raise funds and awareness to advance Alzheimer’s Association care, support and research programs.

As a caregiver for several years, Jan is very familiar with the challenges that come along with the disease. Jan has not only mastered the skills of managing life without her partner of more than 50 years but she is also an Alzheimer’s advocate for others in a similar situation. Working closely with Rep. Giovanni Capriglione and his staff, Jan is channeling her energy toward changing legislation for restructuring memory care units and finding hope for others dealing with the difficult journey.

“I will be honoring Gary for the Alzheimer’s battle he has lost.” Jan said. “I will continue to fight for others, as well.”
